...Revenge of the Leftovers...
It's really quite amazing what you can do with food. I mean, you get pancakes from some powdery white stuff, variously coloured liquids and the goopy stuff you find inside eggs; it's genius! And it doesn't stop there - food has also been the inspiration for more than one animated movie, the most recent being Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, the sequel to the 2009 hit movie. While I enjoyed the first movie, it's certainly not my favourite, but it's fairly enjoyable and fun to watch.
Before I even talk about the story and characters, I have to give the look of this film high HIGH praise! Everyone I'm sure by now knows that the plot involves Flint and his gang returning to their island to find that the FLDSMDFR has mutated the food into living creatures - foodimals - that have taken over the island, creating its own little biosphere right on top of the old infrastructure. This island is definitely the best part about the film, so big props to the visual development team. The foodimals looked great, trying to guess their names before the characters did was fun and the island itself and the various mini-ecosystems were incredibly creative.
As for the plot itself... well, let's just say I'm not as impressed. While it was a fun and entertaining movie, it just didn't hold my attention too well. It was far too predictable; acceptable for the inevitable toddler crowd, but less suitable for anyone past grade 2. You know from the beginning who the villain was going to be, who was going to have a last minute change of heart, and the motives of nearly every character. There were some bits that were slightly draggy as well (time spent taking in the visuals) and the character development was dismal at best. While Flint had the most development, it was of the predictable sort as well, and it came up and was resolved far too quickly for my taste (coming and going throughout perhaps a 20-30 minute span). Most of the other characters were quite useless; the chicken guy, the policeman, whose names I can't even remember, and even Sam and the father were a tad redundant at some points. I liked the villain, Chester V, who was a sort of caricature of Steve Jobs; I actually really enjoyed the subtle hints and connections they made to Apple (constant innovations, being a "hip" company, etc). Other than that, he's the traditional animated movie villain, only slightly more transparent about his motives. Although the animation on him was great, I loved those wacky arm movements!
All in all, though far from the best animated movie of the year, not the worst either. It's a harmless, visually stunning, predictable flick, good for renting from Netflix or The Movie Network on a suitably rainy afternoon.

New Blog - The Dragon Diaries!
Hi guys! I know I haven’t been posting too much, but that’s because I’ve been working on a little pet project (no pun intended!) of mine. If anyone remembers my final project for Sheridan (watch it here), it was about a little purple draogn named Yoshi. So I decided to turn it into a blog about his adventures, and his day to day adventures and mishaps as seen through the pencil of his owner. First drawing is going up today, and I'll be posting at least once a week! I’d really appreciate anyone checking it out!
You can check it out here!

Catch up!
Hi all! Just wanted to write a quick journal and say that I'm still around! This summer has been pretty hectic so far, so I've been devoting what little free time I have to drawing, and well, catching up on sleep. Between trips, moving to a new city and new friends, there hasn't been time for much else. I also started my new job a few weeks back, you're lookin' at a full time animator here! I'm working at Arc Productions in Toronto, and hopefully soon I'll be able to share what I'm working on. For now though, all you have to know is that is pretty damn cool.
I have a lot of messages to catch up on here and I want to try and get through all o
Thoughts on Inside Out
Pixar is BACK baby! Here are my thoughts on Inside Out... (spoiler free, I promise!)
This movie more than anything brought me back to the first time I saw movies like The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Up and pretty much any Toy Story movie. They are movies that make you think, movies that are multi-layered and deep. Even some of the jokes were double-edged.They keep you thinking, and wondering about them far after the credits have rolled. You can watch them over and over again and see something new each time.
From the get this movie sets itself apart. We start out with Riley, the main character in a sense. The true main characters are her emot
I'm aliiiiiiive! Look, a dragon!
Goodbye Sheridan! I don't think I've ever worked so hard in my life, but it was definitely worth it! Check out my final film below, and I'm sure you'll understand why I've been a little absent from dA this past month:
WATCH HERE: HOTSPOT
It's about a cute little dragon. You have no heart if you can't enjoy that =P
So now it's all over and I'm home and I miss it already. But now I can go off into the world, get a really cool job and hopefully a real pet dragon (seriously, go watch it ITS ADORABLE!) And that means I will also have time to start drawing again! And getting through several hundred messages that have piled up over the past litt
